Former Bachelorette star Sam Frost has revealed her health scare after the results of a pap smear showed a ‘high-grade abnormality’ and ‘quite a bit of pre-cancerous cells’.

The 27-year-old TV and radio personality revealed on 2DayFM’s Rove and Sam that it was ‘nothing to be alarmed about’ and said she was getting surgery on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, she took the opportunity to tell her listeners about the importance of getting regular pap smears to test for cancerous cells, adding: ‘It’s a really common thing and easily treated’.

In a frank discussion with co-host Rove McManus, Sam explained the difference between the two types of pap smears.

‘You get the regular STI ones, no dramas – but there’s a different one that you get to check if you’ve got cancerous cells, if there’s any abnormalities.

‘And that’s the one that people assume is in the STI one, but it’s not. So it’s a completely different one. That’s the one that I went in to get done,’ she added.

Sam then confirmed the results showed an abnormality and she would be undergoing surgery after recording the breakfast show.

‘The biopsy has been done, everything’s fine,’ Rove told the listeners reassuringly, adding: ‘You’re okay. No need for anyone to be panicking or anything like that.’

Sam added: ‘I wanted to have this opportunity to say to the ladies, and even the guys out there to get their girlfriends on board or their sisters: go to the doctors and get a pap smear.

‘It is so uncomfortable and it’s the worst, and I know so many of my friends that put them off. It’s a really common thing and it’s so easily treated.

‘If you don’t catch it then obviously it advances into more scarier things. But if you get it at this stage, easy-peasy, no dramas, (it’s) a nice, simple procedure.’

She concluded: ‘So, ladies, please call your GP, get it out of the way and just know that S Fro’s on your side.’

Sam Frost rose to fame on The Bachelor in 2014, and the following year was announced as Australia’s first Bachelorette.

She has since left behind her reality TV days to begin a career as a breakfast radio host for 2Day FM in Sydney.
